Exercise Physiologists

The Accredited Exercise Physiologists at South Coast Sports Medicine are an integral part of the Sports Medicine team, with extensive knowledge about the effects of exercise on the musculoskeletal system. Tertiary trained over at least 4 years, their understanding of exercise effects for individual patients and their chronic conditions is evidence-based and extensive.

They are able to prescribe a course of exercise for fitness, illnesses or rehabilitation. This includes treating medical conditions such as obesity, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, depression, asthma and cardiovascular diseases. When appropriate, it should be possible for many patients to be progressed to, for example, external personal training or group fitness providers who lack the depth of knowledge and training in chronic conditions.

Working alongside doctors, physiotherapist, nutritionist and other allied health professionals they aim to have a whole body approach in treating and managing your symptoms.

The exercise approach taken by our Exercise Physiologists is based on the latest research, prescribing exercise programs based on biochemical movements, motor control, cardiovascular and metabolic principles. Our in-house clinical exercise studio is also available for casual use after having a EP appointment to continue your prescribed exercises. Many patients achieve successful outcomes with a home-based program, or a review of their existing exercise program.
