The multidisciplinary team at South Coast Sports Medicine have the knowledge and skills to safely design corrective exercise programs that will alleviate pain caused by common musculoskeletal imbalances. These imbalances often lead to discomfort, pain and injury and can exacerbate pre-existing conditions. The team have a thorough understanding of muscles, movement and biomechanics that may be causing a specific dysfunction.
Corrective exercises are an important part of reducing aches and pains, as well as reaching fitness objectives. Generic gym programs or generic personal training do not usually take into account each individual’s unique combination of movement habits and postural imbalances.
The musculoskeletal system is under continual stress to dissipate impact through the body from gravity and ground reaction forces (Chasan, 2002). When some areas of the body are sub-optimally performing, other areas must compensate to deal with the load. This compensation can lead to a relative overload of muscles and soft-tissue structures causing pain and potential injury.
Eventually, these compensation patterns may manifest in clients as problems such as Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, patellofemoral syndrome, hip bursitis or dysplasia, spinal disc degeneration, rotator cuff tendonitis, sub-acromial bursitis and/or tension headaches.
Our team is trained in assessing musculoskeletal imbalances and designing a corrective exercise program to get a body back into alignment. We recommend you first see a Sports Doctor first for a diagnosis of your symptoms, and they will communicate closely with the other members of your treatment team to develop an individual treatment plan for you.
